I have an old deore rear derailleur on my old trek 830 that is starting to take a crap. It is on a 6 speed freewheel set up and I would like to replace it with something more or less cheap - I ride 80% on road/trails so I don't need anything bullet proof. It does have the SIS shifting system so its indexed. Can I buy another shimano product and expect that it will work OK or is there some specific specifications I need to look for? I know I should probably get a new bike but in my budget it looks like the components that come on bikes nowdays are pretty rudimentary (HardRock and 3500 trek) plus I need to shell out $$$ for some other expenses now as well. Anyhow thanks in advance for any help!
