Which chain? XT HG 8 speed cassette. Truvativ Stylo Team GXP crankset (9X)

This is the final part I need for my upgrade. I hope.
I don't know if I have to use an 8 or 9 speed chain with this combination---or does it matter? With a 9 speed crankset and an 8 speed cassette will I have problems with my 8 speed shifters regardless of which chain I use?
If it doesn't matter, which chain is a good value?

Update: After some more reading a 9 speed chain seems doable. Is the SRAM PC-991 9SP CHAIN a good option?

i think 8spd cassette will be fine. My setup is xt M760 casette with stylo team gxp crankset. but im using durace 9spd line. no shifting problems at all after a year of riding.

Match the chain to the rear cassette, the front should be fine. If you are running 8 speed, and using newer 9 speed front derrailure, you may have light rubbing at either extreme, but that is what grip shift is for...heh heh heh.
