    Chain suck

Got a santa Cruz Chameleon, brand new shimano chain. Going down hill, the chain sucks,I can make it recover by skidding the rear tire. Any ideas .

Did the person you bought the bike from put a new chain on to sell it with?

I'll bet your drivetrain is excessively worn and your chainring is basically hooking the new chain and wrapping it up. Solution: take it to a bike shop and have them assess it. Quick solution: new cassette and middle chainring (maybe a small ring too).
Don't you hate it when a sentence doesn't end the way you think it octopus?

Wash the factory lube off the chain....then lube it up with some nice light stuff.

Check your freehub it might be sticking...

Just pedal with the bike on the stand, then let the back wheel glide to a stop, does the chain push the pedals if so then the freehub is getting a bit tight.
