Chain jumping from small chainring to middle chainring

Anyone ever have the chain jump from small chainring to the
Middle chainring under load? This is happening to me on my last ride and I can't figure out why. The cassette is holding fine it's just the front. Could a bent rear derrailleur Cause this? I have a Santa Cruz tallboy and the chain is a year old. I just lubed it and I'm stumped as to why this is happening. I'm hoping someone else out there has had this issue. When climbing and under load on the non drive side crank the chain goes up to the next chainring.

Bet it only happens when on the middle to smaller cogs of the cassette.

Don't use them with the inner ring.

The chain angle has it too close to the middle ring and the chain is picked up by the shift pin/ramps.

Yup I think you're right. I have 24t granny ring that I can replace the current 26t with. To see if i can get the chain away from the shift rings.

You'll still need to modify your gear selection habits. You might get less pickup on the first gear that happens with, but nothing more.

No need. Just do not use those gear combos. The ratios are duplicated on the middle ring. Only use the 2-3 largest cogs with the inner chainring.

This is the best piece of advice. If you absolutely must, though, you can grind the shift pins off of the middle ring. Your [intentional] shifting, however, will suffer as a result.

There is zero reason to run a small/small combo or anything close to it. Cross chain the other direction all you want.
