Can I use XT M785 2x10 chainrings on my XT M770 crankset?

I am currently running a 2x9 setup using XT M770 cranks with 26-36t chainrings + bash. I am in the middle of converting over to a 2x10 setup. I have already purchased a 11-36t cassette, RD and 2x10 shifters. I would like to go to a 26-38t or 28-40t setup up front. I noticed that the BCD of the 2x10 XT M785 cranks is the same as my 9 speed M770 crankset. Can I just changed the chainrings out instead of buying a new set of cranks? Will a 10 speed f. der and shifter work with my 9 speed cranks? Sorry if this is a redundant question on this forum. I have done a search but have found conflicting information.
    Killing it with close inspection.

Yes, I did this with XTR M970 cranks and M980 38-26t rings with and XT FD but its the same for XT. You will need shorter chainring bolts if you go 38-26t since the big ring will be gone but this has a better chainline. You can used the triple 9-speed FD but I recomend to get a double FD for it to work smooth.
If I disagree with you, it's because you are wrong.
