    calculating chain length w/cage length

So I have done some searching and have not found what I am looking for. My chain is too long after using the "long formula" at :

    http://www.cyclingnews.com/tech/fix/?id=chainlength

The result I calculated was a link longer then some Java script calculators.

So it dawned on me, how do these formulas take into the account of cage length or does that not matter?

Here, is my info - 12-27 rear and 42 - 22 front. My chain length is 16.5 inches (Scott Scale XL) and I am using a short cage Dura-ace.

    thanks for any guidance . . .

my thoughts would be just use the manual method...around the large chainring and cog plus 2 links

    DMR for Life...what he said

Exactly what he said. Large cog/ring plus 2 links.
And don't do the burrito jump... Francois
