    Cage length?

ok, question. X9 rear derailleur. Would a medium cage work with a 11-34T cog and a 22/32/44 chainring set up? Or would I need a long cage?

Your entire drivetrain capacity is (44-22)+(34-11)=45T.

I dont use SRAM, but based on what I know, you would definitely need a long cage (or maybe a superlong cage), since medium can take only upto 37T (someone please correct me if I am wrong)

Also, check the sticky on top of the "Everything Drivetrain" forum. You will find a very detailed explanation there.

    WOrks fine for me

I just set up a medium cage on the same tooth setup. Works fine for me. I can ride small-small or large-large chainring/cog setups no prob. Large to Large doesn't stretch the derailler too much either. Still got a nice S and bends in the chain.

Runs like a charm. I'd buy medium again.
