    Boone Chainring Users

I recently got a middle chainring from Boone. After installing, I noticed that with the chainring bolts tightened on my XT Hollowtech crankset, that the bolts were bottoming out which left some some play with the chainring.

Have others experienced this? Did you just get new bolts or shave down the ones you have? Did it affect the chainline alignment?

    I Used Washers

I haven't had that problem with Boone rings but with some aftermaket aluminum rings that were a bit thinner than stock. I used washers underneath the head of the chainring bolt. This should not affect chainline as the ring will be tight against the spider and in the same place as the stock ring. It just leaves the head of the bolt sticking out a bit.

Send Brett at Boone an email and he will mail you the spacers you need. You would think he would either make the rings a little thicker or send the washers with the rings...... FWIW I searched all over town for the right size with no luck.

Normally the middle chain ring is offset inward, so you have to put the washer between the crank and the chain ring when using Boone rings. Look at you old chain ring and see where the teeths are placed. Normally teeths have a width about 2 mm, but the aluminium chain rings are made of 4 mm or 5 mm plate, so you can offset the teeths. I think the Boone rings are made of 2 mm plate, so no offset there.
