    Bike fit question...

I am setting up a new bike. My road bike is set up so that my knee is over pedals (KOPS). I am comfortable and powerful in this position. On the Mtbike, what is the general thought of seat- fore/ aft placement? I don't want to 'just put the seat on'...I want to have a starting spot. If KOPS is the start spot, do you all like to have your seat then pushed up or back from that position (knee ahead or behind pedal)?

I think you have it right for the starting position.

Going up really steep hills, where traction is critical, the point of the saddle should feel like it will poke you right up the.....

This helps set the stem length and seat for/aft as well I think.

I like enough saddle length to streach out and get low, for a long road haul.

I would think that the MTB saddle position is more of a compromise than with a road bike.

But I am not an expert at all.

    I Run It The Same

I set up all my bikes the same. Road, MTB, Cyclocross...

I find it makes switching between bikes easier.

I set up with KOPS and am happy with the pedaling position it puts me in. I use a WTB DH saddle which is longer than most with a large padded nose for very steep climbs. I don't worry about saddle position for descendind as I am off the back of it anyway. As for stem length I go as short as possible while still being able to climb.
I got some bad ideas in my head.
