best way to clean my components off the bike?

I'm going to tear down and rebuild my trail rig over the winter. I used to have my LBS do this and they would put all my steel components through a sonic cleaning. What other options do I have that I can do at home?

    Thanks
    Zack

I soak my drivetrain in simple green, all the non plastic bits at least.

Don't use simple green if you plan to soak....get a proper degreaser and since the OP is asking for the best way to clean.....simple green aint that. A heated parts washer is the best way to clean it.

When the wife is gone...use the dishwasher, really! Pre-wash/rinse first, then put 'em right in. It works really well.
The truth will set you free... But first it will piss you off
