    BB sizing questions.

    Hello all,

So i got some basic questions that id like to bounce off of you guys. The bottom bracket that was paired with my crankset is 73 x 118 mil (pulled it off of my old bike). My new frame is a 2009 trek remedy, from what i can tell the BB shell is a 68mm.

I know a new BB is only gonna cost me 11-20$, but im a poor starving college student. So if i can save a couple bucks i will.

I read if i run 2 2.5mm spacers i will run into some issues? what kind of issues are we talking about?

Secondly, spindle length is supposed to match up to what your cranks were designed for correct?

Thirdly is a torque wrench necessary? whats could happen if i dont run with one?

    Bontrager Sport select, VP-bc82.

Both are OEM stuff. Its held up to my last 3 years of riding and i really cant budget in another crankset at the moment.

Well maybe...most square taper BB's are shell width dependent. You'd probably spend as much on a couple spacers as another cheap BB.
