    Basic question, but a little worried

    I just got back from a pretty decent trail ride on my new Kona, and I noticed that there is a sizeable gap between my crank arm and the opening to the bottom bracket; like about 1/4". I have had the bike only 2 days and didn't notice it, but it looks like a good amount of dirt, sand, and gravel could get in there and tear things up. Am I missing a seal, or some sort of spacer that covers this? I don't want to have to take the cranks off and clean out the bottom bracket every time I ride.

    That's normal and fine. The BB is sealed further in than that.
