basic chain question

For a single speed bike do I get a dedicated ss chain?

I did search and some say that a multi speed chain is stronger.
Yet others say that I should use single speed specific as 8 or 9 speed chains have different profile to allow for ease of shifting on the cassette.

I would think a BMX chain would be best. Look at the stress those chains are under !

In the end as long as I get a 3/32 pitch to match the cog and chain ring is one a better rchoice than the other?

All bicycle chains are 1/2 in. pitch, 1/8 or 3/32 refers to the width. The only reason to go with a 1/8 chain (IMO) is if your chainring and sprocket are also 1/8 in., if you use 3/32 sprockets then you are better off using a 3/32 chain because they fit the sprockets better (no side slop) and are generally much higher quality than 1/8 in. chains.
