New question here. Attaching derailleur hanger to the frame ....

I recently bought a 29er hardtail frame and I need to bolt on the derailleur hanger. Do I need to grease the hanger's bolt before I attach the hanger to the frame ?

See if the manual for your frame has anything to say on the matter. All my bikes have always said to grease it. But, your bike may be different. Manual might say loctite instead.

I always grease mine. You may want to consider also greasing the mating surfaces; removable hangers are a common source of creaks, especially if the skewer is not super tight.

I prefer a thread retainer on those bolts.

I use Plumbers (teflon) tape.. works well at holding like Thread Retaining liquids, also keeps the threads form sticking/binding, doesn't attract dirt like grease which can sometime cause creaking and mis-alignement of the hanger if the frame's pocket isn't cleaned well when changing/replacing.
Going to try and bring Trail Tire TV back. go take a look...
