    Alloy free hub compatible cassette

I may upgrade from 8 sp to 9 sp and need to find a cassette that is compatible with an alloy free hub body.

Any suggestions for an 11x34 that is budget friendly?

Also - will the front chain rings be compatible with 9 sp chain?

    Thanks in advance

You can find the SRAM PG990 on sale for about $65-$70 online. An 11-34 has the six largest cogs on the alloy spider. SRAM PG980 can be had under $50 but only puts the three largest cogs on a spiders so you will still get some dig in.

A nine speed chain will work OK 8 speed chainrings...shifts may be a little slower but otherwise will be fine.

XT is another option. What you need is a cassette where most of the cogs are on a carrier, not individually sitting on the freehub.
