The CN-7801 chain will work fine on a 9 speed cassette as the gap between each link plate pair falls within compatibility tolerances of the thickness of the sprockets.
In fact, it works so well that I some times use it for weight weenie builds or where the FD cage is so narrow (ie a road FD) that cage rub is impossible to tune out with a 9 speed chain.
However, you must ensure that the hanger is straight; the cables are pre-stretched, and the housing/ferrules are properly seated in the cablestops. A tiny bit more precision will be needed when you tweak the derailleurs for indexing.
