    30T chainring recommendations

I am currently running bash-32-22 on my Tall Boy, with XT 104bcd crank. Wimpy old guy that I am, I want to swap the 32T with a 30T. I just like staying in the middle ring as long as possible and only shifting down to 22T on extreme pitches. I run a 31T on my 650b 1X9, A 30T would be ideal for me on the wagon wheels.

    Wolf Tooth Components makes one:

    http://shop.wolftoothcomponents.com/...nrings-001.htm

    And also Anderson Machining:

    http://andersenmachine.wordpress.com/product-info/

They are comparably priced. The Anderson is ramped, uses regular chainring nuts& bolts, and warns that your spider ends must be ground in order for a chain to fit on the ring.

The Wolf Tooth has threaded holes in the ring so that nuts are not needed. The site mentions nothing about spider modification (maybe because no nuts?) and also does not mention ramps. Ramps not needed at all for 1X, useful but not required for 2X.

I have no problem modifying my spider in either case.

Anybody have experience with or recommendations as to either of these rings?

    TIA.

I've used the Anderson but it was the SS version and it used threaded holes.

It was a nice ring and is still in use by one of my buddies. The spider arm mod took around 10 minutes using a $4 hand file.

    30T chainring recommendations

FYI, I emailed Wolf Tooth who responded to an e-mail from me as follows re 30T:

Not ramped! Drop-Stop wide/narrow tooth (like XX1), can only be used as a 1x ring.
No spider mods required -- chainring is offset 2mm inward so the chain can clear.

Therefore, Anderson best (only?) bet for 2X

    Re: 30T chainring recommendations

You also have Extralte's 30T Octaramp ring. I just don't know who you can buy them from in the USA. Etralite sells them directly from their whebsite.

The ring has ramps and threads built in. It needs the filing of the spider. The threads are long as it is supposed to be mounted with a big outer ring or a bash. I don't know about how well it shifts as I use it in a 1x setup.

I have the Anderson rings, both versions. I ran the SS version for a little bit as a 1x8, then decided I wanted to have a 20T cog as well and swapped the SS version out for the geared one. No issues.
