    2x10 specific FD

Just changed my drivetrain to 2x10 XT setup. Only thing left is SLX fd-M660 front derailleur, direct mount (bike is SC Blur LTc) and I am having two problems with it.

It sits way too high above large ring and cant get it any lower and cant make it not rub... would buying fd-m 786 for example help with it?

I went 2x by removing my large ring and setting the limit screw to lock out the big position. I tried all sorts of things to make the 3x FD work.

First I moved the FD as low as possible. It didn't shift well, because I couldn't get it low enough for the small and medium-position ramps inside the cage to align. So I put it back to stock height and of course it shifted OK, but if I were in the small cogs in the back and shifted from inner to outer in the front, the chain would walk off the outside of the ring when shifting up.

So I finally said screw it and got a 2-speed FD. Get yourself a 2-speed SLX. They aren't expensive.

BTW, here's a tip for adjusting the FD limit screws. The high limit screw doesn't adjust anything -- it just keeps you from shifting off the outside of the big ring. The two adjustments are the L limit screw and cable tension (barrel adjuster).

So turn the H screw CCW to get it out of the way, adjust the L screw and barrel adjuster. Shift into the big ring, and set the H screw so it just barely touches the cam or even has a little gap.

So at the end I purchades 2x10 specific front derailleur (FD-M786 D) and it actually does make a lot of difference vs. 3x9 SLX one. In has narrower cage and mounting slot allows to position it where it should be vs. large ring.
