2x Shimano SLX Shifters on a 3x Shimano XT crankset?

Will a 2x Shimano SLX front shifter work on a 3x Shimano XT crankset with only 2 rings?

M660 SLX (both 9 & 10 speed) are 3X, the newer M670 (10-speed only) are 2x/3x with a mode screw on the bottom. If you have a 3X crank and have low, mid and bash (or nothing on the 3rd) you should use the normal 3x mode and adjust the front derailleur limit screw to avoid over shifting. IF you are only using mid and 3rd rings, then you would used the same on the shifter (cable can go slack if shifting to granny). Another words, the spacing between 1 & 2 is different than 2 & 3.
On a 2X crank, the spacing between rings is the same as the 2-3 ring jump rather than the 1-2. The mode screw locks the shifter in rings 2 & 3 bypassing 1.
    I hope this helps!

Thanks, I just realized that my shifters are the m660 and are 3x10 so no worries. It's installed without a hitch.
