    1x9 with surly chainring.

i recall reading obout compatability issues with surly ss cahinrings and sram 9speed chains. i am setting up a 1x9 29er and have both 9 and 8 speed sram chains and looking for recommendations for the best fit.

    thanks, mark

the 94BCD rings do not work with 9 speed chains. The 110 and 104 rings work fine. I use the 110 rings on my 2X setups.

The 94BCD rings are thicker (this is noted on the Surly site). A worn 9 speed chain may work but is not ideal. I tried one on a 2x9 with a new chain and the chain would "stick" to the ring (chain suck and/or not shift).
