    1x10 chainring spacing

Recently changed out my SLX 3x10 to a OneUp oval 1x10 with a new 11-42 bigger cassette. I've mounted the 32t oval chainring directly to the crank but I'm thinking I should use the small spacers to shim it inwards towards the frame so there's better chain alignment when in the granny gears. Am I wrong or should I leave it as is? Basically the chainring is where the center ring was from the old 3x10 setup, unspaced.

The shims will give you better chainline which will reduce drivetrain noise and wear, I'd install them.

I also use a Shimano 3x10 crank on my conversion, my chainring is already shimed by 3mm, even so I add one 2mm shim and also shimed my cassette 1mm outboard.
When on my 40t and 46t cogs this extra shims make a big difference.

I believe that electing to shim towards those rear cassette chain rings that you expect to be using the most would be appropriate.
