10spd Sram Road cassette on mtb?

OK, so this may be a dumb question or something that has been discussed previously but not much luck with searching the forums.

Could I use a 10 speed Sram Red (OS-1090) or Force (PG-1070) Road Cassette on my mtb with a Sram X0 2x10 setup? Curious if it would work more than anything.

Should work ok, Sram actually make an 11-21 9 speed "downhill" cassette for 9 speed MTB stuff, and all their 10 speed stuff uses the same spacing.

The only issue you may run into is with the limited B wrap up of Sram derilers you won't be able to get the upper pulley anywhere near the 6mm recommended gap.

And the ability to clear mud/debris is non existent. The SRAM sponsored cyclo-cross riders couldn't use red cassettes for this reason

That is true only for the RED cassette, which is, for mud purposes, a solid block. Force and other cassettes should work fine.

Shimano 10 speed cassettes ( road or not ) should work fine as well.
