    1 x 6

    Folks...first post here.

    I'm putting together a 1x6 with a modified XT cassette (17-34) on a 29" wheel built by Jeff Jones. Looking for a high quality crankset to match up.

    Any suggestions? This is my first 1 x setup. Considering something like the Diety Vendettas, maybe the Middleburn RS7s.

    XC makes up the majority of my riding but I like things that don't break. It will have to carry a 34t ring for my riding here in the midwest and it would be nice if I could swap in a 30t ring for trips out west...

    Thanks,

    Adam

    1x9 Setups

    I have a similar request.
    Can people post their 1x9 setups? The best 1x9 crankset/32T ring/chain guide/bash guard?
    Thanks!

    I went for easily available cranks on my singlespeed: Shimano LX Hollowtech 2, with a Deore steel chainring and some left-over bash ring. Shimano-compatible chainrings should be easy to get.

    On a 1x? HT, I'd add an N-Gear Jumpstop on the inside.

    I made a choice

    I decided to go with Shimano XT cranks and put on a Salsa SS chainring and Salsa bashguard.

    Will post picks when I put everything together....

    Thanks!

    (T) = (BIG ring - small ring) + (BIG cog - small cog)

    ...so for a typical 44-32-22 mountain crank & 11-34 cassette...

    T = (44T - 22T) + (34T - 11T)
    .. = (22T) + (23T)
    .. = 45T

    And for a 1x9 with 32t chaingring up front:

    T = (32t-32t) + (34t-11t)
    = (0t) + (23t)
    = 23t

    Since the short cage derailleur has a capacity of 33t this will work...33t is more than 23t.

    How about now?

    1 x 9 set-ups

    FarmerFred,

    Here's the link to a 1 x 9 post - Show pics of your 1x9 setup.

    That thread helped me a lot w/ my set-up. There's we're concerns on dropping the chain. I got a BBG bashguard from ebay for $14 shipped. It's a nice piece - not overkill and good enough for AM riding here in the northeast (NY). I also fabricated my inner plate out of lexan - about $12 at home depot (if you have the inclination). I'm using an older Raceface Next LP crankset w/ a 28t specialties TA chainring from Peter White cycles. I'll be swapping that to the reserved 30t soon as them legs got enough strenght and stamina. Good luck.....

    Envy Ring Thing does a great job as an inner bash.

    My set up:
    32T up front & 11-34 up back.

    I left the front derailleur on for a bit as I had to buy the right tool to get the crank off & inner plate on (in place of the granny), the FD worked well, just a shame it's not cosmetically as nice.

    My next bike will come with a 36T up front & 11-32 up back plus chain guide, that will be interesting to see the difference!

    ^^^That is one sharp looking setup. Does the inner guard bolt in place of the granny?

    Croscoe, yes the inner plate mounts via the granny bolts.

    Envy makes them and I believe Blackspire does as well. Oh I would have loved to get my hands on a Straitline Inner ring, but I'm not sure what's going on, they just don't seem to be available anywhere yet - and it's been a year!

    ENvY DOUBLE E
    BLACKSPIRE STINGER

    I think the plate sandwich would only work for up to a 34T size), anything bigger & you may have fit issues with the inner & chainstays.

    Another thing, contrary to what the double E looks like there doesn't seem to be any way to mount it as a bashring on the outside, I tried the idea but it just wouldn't fit with the shimano cranks or the race face evolve cranks. So yeah for a bashie don't get a double E!
