    Stripped 20mm thru axle...

Does anyone have an idea on how to get a 20mm with stripped head out of the lowers of a fox 40?

I went to remove it yesterday, loosened all the pinch bolts and proceeded to remove the axle and the Allen key completely spun through the head without budging the axle. It seems like this think is made of butter, I don't know what happened but I need to get it off ASAP. I'm calling Fox tomorrow to order a replacement which will be useless of I can't get the current one off. The threads are fine, it's just the Allen part is rounded out.

That's gonna be a project that requires some finesse. I'd try using some thread penetrant to maybe help loosen whatever is causing it to bind. As for getting a wrench to fit, you might be able to reshape the rounded out hole to a bigger size allen by "carefully" hammering the wrench into the hole. A T handle will be easiest to keep straight and get a good hit with. You most likely will want to try a Standard wrench since the next size up in Metric will be a 6mm and that's gonna be pretty much impossible to force into the hole. There just isn't much material to get a grip on with that axle setup so you're kinda stuck using the existing hole. An easy out may do the trick as well but I've never tried it on one of these. Maybe somebody else will chime in with a simple idea...

Drill two 1/8" holes in it and use a pin spanner.

    Stripped 20mm thru axle...

Great idea...you think that would compromise the strength of the axle? I could probably reuse it doing that, and avoid the $70 for a new one....for a little while anyway

It'll be fine. It's not like you have to drill them deep, and there's a ton of material on the end there.
