    Saint cranks

Just a quick question about the Saint M825 cranks. It states on the Shimano website that they are 10 speed only. Can these be used with a 9 speed drive train or is Shimano just making it sound like one would have to upgrade to 10 speed components.

i have heard people say it should work but not 100% sure as i have never tried it myself. the 9 speed chain should fit on the 10 speed chainring though it will be slightly wider so could cause premature wearing. i am asuming here as i said not 100% sure.
could you not just throw a 9 speed chainring on the saint crank arms.

Thanks for the response. I found an e*thirteen 9/10 speed compatible chainring that seems like it would do. However, it would be nice to just buy the cranks without having to swap parts out just for it to run smooth.

what size bb are you looking at, if its a 83mm then im pretty sure the new m825 comes crank arms and bb only you have to but chainring as an extra. i think the 68/73mm comes as a complete crank.
thats what i found last week when i was looking at buying the new saint crank, have decided now to go for raceface sixc though as it's lighter and my mate can get them cheap.

    Saint cranks

I just bought the saint M825 crankset and it came with a 36T chainring. Not sure if that's standard or not.

No reason why it shouldn't work. Maybe on a cassette where the cogs are spaced closer, you'd have a problem with a chain fitting, but on a crank's chainring?

    8, 9, & 10spd chainrings are compatible.

It will work fine with 9 speed. I just bought a Zee crankset for my jump bike - Also a "1x10" crankset. My jump bike has some kind of big honkin' bmx chain on it & it runs fine.
