Jumping similarity b/t Mtb and MX dirtbike?

I rode motocross for a year and loved it just couldnt afford the cost associated with the sport. I'd like to get a freeride type bike and was wondering if jumping (dirtjumping) was a similar feel. Does it feel exactly the same, with preloading and all? If not what are the differences? It'd be awesome to hear from some guys who have jumped on both a Dirtbike and on a Mtb. Thanks in advance!

I raced mx for the last 15 years. I think jumping a bike is a little different than a dirt bike. It takes very little to get used to though IMO. You just don't have the throttle there to give that last blip on the lip of the jump.
