Help me build a 2nd DH/Freeride bike... on the cheap.

I have a Transition Bottlerocket frame with a DHX 5.0 shock that needs a complete bike build. I already have a Blindside that I ride but I am wanting to build a 2nd/backup bike in case I have friends or family that want to ride, but don't have a FR bike.

Looking for suggestions on underrated... affordable new parts that I can put a bike together with on a budget. Keep in mind, I need everything other than a frame, shock, and headset. Thinking a 150-160mm fork would be more than adequate. Frame is 135mm rear dropouts and my current headset is a 1 1/8" straight setup, but can be swapped out if needed.

Links would awesome if you have them.

    Thanks!!

Thanks for the info! I am working with a V1 frame, so I am good with a 1.5" steerer.

I would check the big bike sites, they often have a pretty good selection of close out stuff, and obviously the classifieds, here, ridemonkey, pinkbike, local craigslist?

The Domain is a such a great budget free ride fork. I had one for that was on 3 different bikes and such a simple reliable fork.

I've always though SRAM X7 was an underrated drivetrain, you can pick that stuff up cheap and it ain't fancy, but its reliable.

Thanks for the info guys, I am thinking I will order the Domain fork today before they sell out. I realized I have a set of Ice Tech rotors, and a chain guide as well. Put together a build sheet last night while hitting all the big online shops, Deity, and Transitions stores. Should be able to put the bike back together for under $1,400 using all new parts. Azonic Outlaws, XT Brakes, Sram Drivetrain, Domain Fork, Zee Cranks, Deity Bars/Grips/pedals, TBC Stem,Saddle... etc...

Check out Race Face's Chester line.

It's definitely budget friendly and IMO looks pretty stylish.

    Everything ordered:

    '09 Rockshox Domain Fork (New)
    Axonic Outlaw Wheelset
Transition Temple Lite Stem (Closeout for $20)
    Deity Topsoil Bars
    Cane Creek Double X Headset
    Shimano Zee Cranks
    Shimano XT Brakes
    Ice Tech Rotors (Already had)
Maxxis Minion DHF & DHR Tires
    Easton Vice Seat Post
    Transition Saddle
    Deity Grips
    Sram PG-970 Cassette
    Sram X9 Shifter
    Sram X7 Derailleur
    Deity Decoy Pedals
    Blackspire Chain Guide

Other than the Deity parts, founds some killer deals by spending some time searching online and comparing prices. Not bad for a sub $1,500 build excluding the frame/shock. Thanks for the advice guys... I appreciate it.

It's all good... I prefer the 785's that I ordered. I run them on my AM bike and very happy.
