New question here. Helmet question for DH/Freeride

I ride dirtbike so have a moto helmet. Are helmets that people use for DH & Freeride basically the same as moto helmets, or are they a lot lighter version, specific to MTB'ing ?

    thnx

Many DH helmets are lighter and overall smaller. The protection I believe is designed different as well. Moto helmets are made to absorb higher speed wrecks where DH helmets are engineered for bike speeds. You would be alright with a moto helmet, I wouldnt spend the extra money to get a DH specific helmet unless you just have the money for it.

You are good with your moto helmet. DH/FR helmets are toys compared to moto ones. Don't buy the "better at lower speeds" argument. Total BS.

I used to preach the same thing but am a believer now and ONLY use DH helmets even for moto sports like snowmobiling! NO WAY do I ever go back to MX helmets, especially Snell approved MX - absolute hogwash how they try to show impact resistance as the measuring stick for helmet safety!!! DH helmets ARE safer!

    Have FUN!
