    Helmet Q...

How many of you actually use an ASTM-F1952 certified helmet? My current helmet is old and beat up pretty good. I can get a good deal on a 661 Evo Carbon and a Comp. Anyone have either of those by some chance as well, and if so how do you like it?

I had both. They were ok. I have a D3 now and wouldn't go back. Its my noggin' so its a pretty important thing to protect.

The 661 is a good helmet if it fits you. I have a D2 I got on clearance for about 180, and it has been great. But the biggest thing is making sure it fits well. The only reason I didn't go for the 661 was because it pushed a bit too hard on my forehead. TLD helmets do have more refined construction, but it isn't like the 661 is a slouch at all.

Don't worry too much about DOT, Snell, astm or other ratings. The majority of current safety ratings of a helmet are more to show an attempt to comply with nebulous and often marketing-driven standards. It's the unfortunate truth. I have done a lot of research on this, and even done some submitting of findings to lawmakers. But before I get all preachy, just know that any of the helmets from the big name companies should keep you from scrambling your eggs in a fall. Some just have nicer cloth inside, and a prettier paint job.

thank you '_rhin. Think I'm going to get the EVO Carbon. The 50% off price tag is pretty enticing. one of my concerns is cooling.. but I guess the faster I go the more airflow cooling I'll get right!
