first dh rig for under $3500?

It is hard for me to find a used DH bike since I need a small. Majority are mediums and large. I'm only 5'5". I may have to just buy a new bike.

I'm looking at giant glory 2, intense M9Pro, Kona Operator DH, Pivot Phoenix.

I'm leaning towards the glory heavily since it is popular and has good reviews by many users. Read good things about Kona operator also (what are cons though with simple pivot design). I don't hear or have read too much on the Intense and Phoenix.

    Thanks

the pivot is highly recommended here by other users. To be honest i think what whenever someone is looking for used bikes, they only find the sizes other than what they need. When I was looking for a medium, all everyone was selling were large and smalls.

I'm a huge fan of the Glory, love the ride. Intense uses the VPP similar to Santa Cruz and I've always been a fan of SC, great rides. The Pivot comes highly recommended but I've never ridden it. Friends and others have good things to say about current Kona models, but from personal experience I will never have one again. You have some good choices here, $3500 should be an easy number to hit. Giant has the glory 2 on their website for 3200 new, might be able to shave that a bit with some searching. Or get a used 00 with a better build.

For a first DH rig, last year my brother found a used '07 Spec Big Hit and for about $900 was rocking all year. Point is, there are lots of good deals out there, if you look around.

The Glory is a great bike. In my opinion the best bang for your buck out there.

Another vote for the glory. The geo on the 2013 is spot on without an angleset and its in your price range. You should see if you can demo one.

Trawl through the many ads up on PB?

    Used Freeride/DH Bikes - Page 1 - Pinkbike Buy&Sell

I'm sure there's at least one bike you'd be able to get.

I check pinkbike every now and then. Haven't seen anything I really liked in my size and in my area. I'm only willing to buy used locally.

That can be another option. But the specs on the Status I heard are not as good as other bikes. I could be wrong. Still trying to get familiar with DH bikes.

That's a pretty good deal, but at 5'5" it might be a little big for him.

... i think what whenever someone is looking for used bikes, they only find the sizes other than what they need
    So true.

I was super hesitant to buy a used bike from Pinkbike (I was also looking for a small). No knock on mtbr, there was just not enough in their classifieds.
But with a little extra patience I was able to pull it off. I bought from someone who had been on PB for a while, and whose profile actually looked legit and showed activity (as opposed to anon_sellerl33td00d1985).

It worked for me, no guarantees but don't give up hope.

I got my bike off the PB classifieds. 2011 Turner DHR w/privateer build kit retailed for $7250 at the time. Ad said bike was 6 months old, ridden less than 10 times. Pictures were good, user had been a member for some time, sold bikes on there before etc. I paid $3500, and it arrived in better condition than I had imagined. The amount of traffic Pinkbike gets is unreal, so the classifieds are always chock full of good deals. If you can't find exactly what you want/need, be patient cause chances are a good deal will come along. Just use common sense so you don't get burned. You will definitely get more for your $3500 in the used market versus buying new. $3500 on a new bike will be the "lower" end of DH bikes, whereas $3500 will get you something World Cup ready on the used market.

I found a bike on pinkbike.com. Seller is local so I can check bike out.
Seller bought frame then built bike. She says there is a 2" long shallow dent on top tube. She is selling for $2500.

    2010 Giant Glory 00
The bike has Fox 40 fork, Fox DHX RC4 (with titanium spring) shock, Mavic EX 729 Disk Wheels, Juicy 7 Brakes, Sram XO derailleur, Race Face cranks, E Thirteen bash guard. Nevegal tires.

    Opinions would be appreciated. Thanks!
