I do surf but not real well. I've always been involved with board sports - wakeboarding, skateboarding, snowboarding, and surfing. Just picked up a new 5'11" tri-fin fish over Memorial day while down in FL, it's super fun.

Headed to Costa Rica in early September for a few days but land-locked in UT means surfing only happens a few times a year.

Yep...always check the wave forecast before I make weekend riding plans. Been surfing for 20 years - learned in Maryland, lived in FL for 6 years, and now Santa Cruz is my home break for the last 10 years. Some years I surf more and others I ride more. This year I'm definitely riding more.

After the heyday 90's for DH, things got a bit wierd with the 50 lb bikes and all so I spent more time surfing. Now, DH seems to be on the upswing again and I'm definitely more stoked on it now.

That's funny, but when I was in CR 2 years ago, I met guys from Utah, Colorado, Pennsylvania...all of these landlocked states. I was a bit surprised...thought I was heading out on a Centro surf adventure where only hardcore surfers go and it turned out to be like Disneyland. No offense - it was really cool and had a great time.

Next year we're going to Nicaragua to get away from the crowds, if it's not too late. Peru, Chile the year after.

Yeah, there was a great article in Surfer's Journal a couple years ago about Maine. Talk about brain freeze, ice cream headaches, etc....I don't miss those days.

I hear ya. My bro in law is a core surfer type. He's been to Costa Rica a few times and says the same. Their crew is headed to Panama this year to get off the path a bit. But I'm sure I'll have a great time there, we're way more chill on the surfing. Besides, did HI twice last year so need something different this year.

just got back from the annual surf trip. Before the trip it's always on my mind not to hurt myself riding, and since we ride year round it's good to tone it down and work on technique and then take a month off the bike to let those nagging injuries heal. Sure enough, got back and third ride I slammed the ground hard, feels like I have internal injuries now...

People always wonder why surfers from Hawaii need to travel to surf....here's a couple photos from the trip, 2 of us out....

need to try central america someday, does it get this good?

returning from these trips it always feels like it was a dream. I think this was #10 for us, been doing a month, few years ago, 45 days. We love the indonesian people and try to get away from the surf tourist culture that is getting a little out of hand in most areas. We've been really lucky to experience what we have. Traveling and living the simple life there does take it's toll, and every year we question whether we are up for it again. Readjusting back to our normal life is hard, snapping out of the dream state hasn't happened yet, maybe a BC trip will fix that .

    surfing

Surfing and the ocean are my first passion. Riding is a close second. luckily i don't have to choose one or the other.

Airwreck - looks like a fun trip. What boat were you on?

    Keep the pics coming.

    Nice photos!

Airwrecks shots look insane! Those photos of Maine are perfection! MKRobert, I am landlocked too - in Idaho. We are almost neighbors maybe!

I have surfed since 6th grade, mostly Huntington and Newport, but never dropped into anything over 10' face probably.

The only surfing photo I have is the crappy little one of me doing an off the lip at Oceanside, and that's my current avatar.

These I posted here, well I'm starting to hit some stuff and it's fun!

Oh yeah, my brother just got back from 10 day trip to Mexico. He said Stacey Peralta and his crew was there, and it was 6-10 for a few days, 4-6 for a few more and then smaller but fun.

A friend of mine just got back from uhhh geez somewhere in the friggin Indian Ocean and said it was 10-15 and he said he was charging.

For sure. Its the most pure adrenaline Ive ever felt, nothing like it at all. Im not great by any means. I spent a month in the Sydney area hitting up Manly beach, Dee Why, and Narabeen. Best month of my life. I was out in some pretty big days that I had no business in and didnt know it was shark season. I had to move away from the bay area because I knew I would kill myself at Maverick's if I ever got stupid/cocky enough to paddle out. Adrenaline is a horrible addiction.

I lived in Hawaii for 14 years, 8 on the north shore of Kauai and surfed all the time. I recently moved to Bellingham and have not sufed since. I miss the Aleutian juice but now I am loving the biking and Boarding. Plus Kauai morphed into part of SoCal. Both sports are great and have their own flow. I agree with Zach..but only if I lived somewhere like G-land.

I don't surf as much due to all the scabs from falling of my bike. the water gets them soft, the wetsuit rubs them off, and they just never heal. gotta big hole in my shin now as a lesson.

I never apologize. I'm sorry, but that's just the way I am.

Since I moved back to LA I surf more than ride....I'll be at Ventura C street in the AM.. just got out of Venice minutes ago, with my kids, one boards, one wobbles around, and I surf.

    Good times.

I like it best at sun up in the Fall. I had some INCREDIBLE sessions right here in Venice in the AM hours in Dec and Jan. Glassy, 4-6 feet, no one around...

    wonderful.

Dont hate on me cuz I surf in the bay, it's 4 miles from my house, I can wake up and be dropping in on a wave in 15 minutes....
