Can someone with a KHS DH200 tell me their chainring size? please thanks!

I got a KHS DH200 frame, and bought a crankset without the insight about what this frame requires. Turns out my 32t chainring was too small to clear the chain on the chainstay. Further research showed that the stock DH200 came with a 40t chainring, but people selling used DH200 have chainring size at 36t. So do you guys think it's safe for me to go with a chainring size of 38t, kinda like in the middle of the road? Or should I go with a 40t like in the stock spec just to be sure. Any help is appreciated.
