Caution; Merge; Workers Ahead! 2008 Norco SIX 1

    Hey guys,
My bro is looking at getting a new bike. He rides a mixture of everything from DH to DJ and XC and only wants one bike to do it. (so basically a Do-It-All bike) We originally rounded it down to a giant reign x but due to a lack of people wanting to sell theirs in australia and with the price of a new x1 going through the roof (3600 AUD- up 400 in one month) we started looking else where.

Anyway, I found a bike shop that has a few of the 2008 Norco six one's in stock. Looking around, I haven't been able to find many reviews on this bike apart from the one at pinkbike. It looks like a solid build but I was wondering if you guys could help me out concerning the components on the bike and how well they last.

Heres the spec lit for reference:

    And a Pic:

Any information would be great especially regarding the ATA fork specifically, (I know most of the other marzocchi forks are crap this year) and the wheels.

    Thanks

looks okay, I have no personal experience with this bike, only thing is keep a good eye on those marz, 2008 one are suppose to have countless problems. but there are people who also have had lots of luck with them.

I always thought that they specced that bike wierd with those 66s up front. The rest of the SIx family came with 55s.
For the applications that you are talking about the Six can be a versatile ride.
Get a telescopic post (or gravity dropper) because there is little adjustment on the ST. There was enough for me to ride a Med, and get the seat far enough away from me, but i usually run a fairly high seat even on the DH bike.

I run MZ forks on the DH bike as well, and would suggest trying to pesuade the shop to switch them to something else - though there are limited options of forks that do not have problems.... Failing that - and remember this is the time of year to haggle hard for an 08 bike...- make sure that they are all good with the MZ distributor where you live. Maybe ask about arranging some kind of extended service/warranty deal with your shop to cover any unfortunate situations.

WTB hubs are OK OEM spec, but not much better than that, Norco usually puts good money into the wheels and forks of their bikes. The rims are decently reliable. If you hack them up, you would most likely have hacked up whatever comes OEM on this type of bike.

    HTH.
    What i ride:
    2012 Norco Aurum LE custom
    2011 Cannondale Jekyll carbon

Thanks for the input ill go see these guys and see what they think. As for the wheels my bro will be happy to thrash them for a year at which point he will got hopes to 721 for his bike.
What sort of adjustable seatpost do you guys recomment? Something with more than 3 inches of travel would be great.

Should be a great bike, I have a 08 Shore and it's been very good to me. They two bikes are very similar in design, with the six being a tad less burly.

I can't see it letting you down. If I was not in to big drops I would have taken a six over the shore as it would be a better trail bike.

The only size the shop has left is a large... Seeing as I can get down to the shop for a while I was wondering whether a large six would fit my bro who is 5 foot 10 and growing?
    Thanks so for guys

might feel just a little long in the front end but should work. Take him over and get him on the bike for a test ride.
