Yeah I have that setup on my 07. Try contacting kona for a newer model lower, if it's compatible with an 04.

I wouldn't be so worried about upgrading the lower link to a 12mm axel. If you get a thru-bolt hub it should be plenty stiff for you.

I don't know much about stinky's, but if possible I'd recommend getting a works headset to slack the front end out a little bit. It'll give the bike a little more modern geometry.

10mm axle plenty strong. I suggest the Hadley axle 10x135

Check this link for the 12x135 drop out for your ride
D.O.P.E Dropouts - Kona USA Web Store

Also, 99.9% certain, that your head tube/steer tube (ID) is not large enough to accommodate a WORKS Headset.

Good luck and congrats on the new ride.

I think that even with a 1 1/8 steerer (and headtube), works has a headset that will slack it out 1 degree.

looks like some Dangerboy rocker plates on there too

they also raise the bottom bracket and steepen the headtube angle even more?

I ran a similar set up years ago and I used a 24 inch rear wheel to compensate for this...

I have a nice set of wheels that would go nice on that bike if you're interested??
Transition Revolution 32's black in nice shape(coupls small scratches)
They already have the 10mm thru hub and come with a 10mm QR axle !!!
the 10mm QR will make a huge difference on your stinky..It will totally stiffen the rrear of the bike up....

Back when i had my Stinky, I ran a 12mm hub with a step down to 10mm axle
the 10mm stiffened up the rear of the bike BIGTIME !!!!

send me a pm if you're interested...I'm in CT.
