    ¾ Sleeve DH Jersey

Sorry for such a dumb question, but what is the purpose of ¾ length sleeves on DH jersey’s?
Just seems like an odd length and I want to cut them shorter.

    I have one.

    It's not for summer.

Its meant for the guys that want to stay cool and don't want tan lines. The 3/4 jersey allows you some breathing room and space for your forearm pads while cover the upper arm to prevent the farmers tan.

They're handy for tall gangly types like me.

I can wear one and not look like I'm wearing some strange sleeveless T-shirt hybrid...
Same applies to 3/4 shorts, it's really code for 'will fit the tall ones properly,' at least it is to me.

I like that it provides a (very small) amount of protection for my elbows without really being much warmer. It's not like it's crash protection, but it helps a bit for stuff like branches and whatnot hanging onto the trail.

    To catch wasps,

I've been stung more times than I can count wearing my 3/4 jersey

Really? It gives even worse of a arm tan if you care. The very small space between your wrists and forearm gets tanned...but nothing else does. Well, that's if you don't wear any forearm/elbow pads.

I have one and I like it. I think it's purely fashion, but it has the same effects as a long sleeve jersey, but the 3/4ths allows air to cool you off. It's kind of nice to have something over your elbows in case you brush up against a bush or something.
