    2007 Repainted Diamondback Response

Here's my Response. Got the frame for free from a friend a few years back. Recently stripped about 6 layers of spray paint from it, hacked off the brake bosses and repainted it with a matte black base and a huge, glossy Diamondback logo across the top tube (actually, the BMX version of the logo). Pretty happy with the paint results. Built up with some stuff I had left over plus some cheap parts picked up from eBay. Came out to about 26 lbs, not helped at all by the 2200g (!) frame. Haven't ridden it yet (well, since it's rebuild) but looking forward to it in the coming week.

I've had this apex for about 13 years. Used as geared trail bike for a couple, then as SS town bike. just put knobbies on it and am loving the trails on it again. Don't tell my wife, but it's more fun than my FS superlight.

Actually used Rustoleum "High-Heat" spray, as I figured if it could withstand fire it would last on a bike. Time will tell - so far so good! I cut the decals out of 2 sheets of transfer paper before masking and hitting the top tube with some standard Rusto gloss enamel. It's not a super-mirror finish, but it contrasts enough with the dead-matte base coat to look nice. Nothing too special, just spraypaint and patience

Got some better pics the other day, here's a good shot of the logo effect: 2007 Diamondback Response 1 | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

Here's the image of my Apex SS. Got it as a hand-me-down from my uncle in 2000. I don't think I bought anything new to set this thing up, just random parts from my collection. Ride what you got.

    Hello all:
New to the forum. I'd purchased my 2012 recoil a few months ago and was inspired by the upgrades many of you have made to yours, so I thought I would share what I've done with mine so far.

    Shimano 596 Hydraulic brakes
    Shimano Revoshift shifters
    Rockshox Tora forks
    Rockshox S.I.D. Shock

Dang, looks nice! I almost went for the '12 cause of the black frame... wasn't really liking the mate gray on the '13s but once I saw it at the local shop I was sold... looks waay better in person than in pictures... I did find a '12 Sortie 1 online for DIRT cheap before it went all out of stock

liking your upgrades, I just ordered some Race Face and Easton stuff, can't wait to begin the upgrade process (and the bike has less than 10 miles haha)

Thanks for the compliment. You got a nice rig there too. Correct me if I'm wrong, the 13s' got the Fox CTD fork. Have you gotten more miles in? How do you like it?

This might be off topic, but here is a clip of my sortie in action.

I say, slacken the head angle and shorten the chain stay and this bike would easily go from good to great.

I never really paid much attention to this until seeing the pictures side by side: the 2 sides of the 2012 Sortie has two color schemes. Nice touch by the graphic design people at DB.

Yup, put about 50 miles on the bike so far... Amelia, Virginia Key, Markham, all SoFL trails... this thing gets better and better... I just went XT for the most part on the drive train, shorten my chain and dropped my 3rd chainring (42t) up front. Got XT 2x FR, rear XT RD shadow and easton EC70 hb up front (slightly wider than the stock, 685 vs 670 stock) and a shorter race face stem (10mm shorter than stock).

The TSALIs (also an upgrade from the stock Wolverines 2.2) are not as good attacking the curves as the Wolves of course (very shallow thread) but omg the feel night and day better, might be because the weight loss (bike is 1 full pound lighter with the tire swap) and the tubeless setup I ran on these last week...

    Here's the bike now:

    Crankbrothers Candy 3 pedals (blue)
    Easton EC70 LoRise Handlebar 685mm
    RaceFace Ride Stem 60mm
    Ritchey WCS Trugrips
Tubeless (NoTubes setup) TSALI 29x2.2 f/r tires
