Yes it is possible to upgrade the rear to 10-speed. But then you will have to change the rear der, shifter and chain.

I wouldn't go 10 though. It just doesn't work very well. You will get through chains like no tomorrow, and really, who needs 10 gears on the back? I haven't done it myself, but those I know that have get through 2-3 chains a year, some more. I have used the same chain on my 8 speed for 10 years!

    '94 DB Apex

These old bikes are still a lot of fun. I bought this one new in '94. About a year and a half ago I decided to bring it out of retirement as a single speed. This lightened it up a lot. I put a Fox F80x Terralogic fork on it, some v brakes, a chain tensioner, 32 tooth ring, 20 tooth cog, a different stem and a Race Face Diabalous bar. Even though I have some other sweet bikes, Klein Palomino and Salsa El Mariachi Ti, this bike still rocks.

    Diamondback in the rough

Post pictures of your DiamondBack-img_20130317_182556%5B1%5D.jpg I've posted this little treasure on another thread but found it more fitting here. I found this hopper at a garage sale for 100$. I've been wanting a FS but will not have enough for money anytime soon. I figured I get this one as a staple. Everything on the bike is original even the tires. Rarely ridden with only one owner, this bike was locked up in the garage for over a decade. I think the best part of this bike aside from the condition was that it was my SIZE. It happened to be a Large 20" and fits like a glove. Staple or not, I don't think I'm ever letting go of this baby.

Mine just a Response XE. It may be a ***** Sporting Goods special, but it's taken everything I've thrown at it. Now it just wants out for spring.

Hi folks, I'm new to the forum. Hope these pictures show up...

    Response 2008
Everything has been upgraded other than the shifters (I think they work great).

I haven't gotten around to take too many pictures of this one. It is currently awaiting some Mavic TN719D rims and Raceface Evolve crankset.

People always ask me why I got a Diamondback when I could have gotten any other "known" brand for same or less money.... I just agree with them to not into an argument. I got this bike a bit over a year ago with top notch component at a great price. I have done some upgrades. I have ridden friend's Niner Bikes, Tallboy, etc. and I love all of them, but this Sortie bike, just keeps calling me back. It's a great ride and honestly, if I had to choose again, I would still choose this bike for the money.
