New question here. Newbie needs some advice

I am looking at what I think is a 1996 Sorrento on craigslist, going off of the pics that were posted. He doesn't list a year or whether its SE, DX, etc. The only thing is that the handlebars are yellow, and I haven't been able to find any 96 models with those. I guess they could be painted. It looks more Remington Yellow than Citrus to me, but I am new. Seller is asking $80, so as long as it's still available I'm buying it tomorrow.

Specs from the ad: 26 inch tires on ALESA 421 alloy rims, 18 speed SHIMANO gears, 22"/56CM CROMOLY frame, AVENIR equipped, SHIMANO light action index shifters, quick release rim and seat adjustment, aluminum alloy crank and many other high end features. I have been on Bikepedia, but haven't been able to tell what's stock and what's not.

I am just wondering if this will be a good ride for me, since I have been in recovery from some work related injuries for the last five years. I'm just now getting back into my old outdoor groove again, but I'm 5'8'', 208 pounds. I want to be sure this bike is going to be 'rugged' enough for my frame. Also, if anyone can suggest anything I might need to think about changing on it before riding. Seller states it doesn't need anything, ready to ride. But just give me your opinions.

    Thanks,

    Jeremy

    I purchased this Recoil about a Month and a half ago (my first bike), after 3 weeks I decided to change a few parts (will change everything within 1 month from now). So here's a list of my upgrades;

FORK: RockShox Recon TK Silver Solo Air
    SHOCK: RockShox Monarch RT3
BRAKES: Quad QHD 5 (Hydraulic Brakes)
    WHEELS: WTB FX 28
    TIRES: Kenda Small Block Eight
SEATPOST: Ritchey WCS Aluminum (on its way)

After getting all the parts I didn't want to install them on that ugly gold color, So I decided to strip it and paint it. Here are the results.

    So Here's the before

    Here's the after.

    diamondback topanga YES. TOPANGA. HAHA.

JK. I purchased this bike about a week and a half ago from my local sports authority (ready to get flamed). It was advertised for 399 on sale (orig. 649). I used the 20% off coupon and it came out to 319. then i added the 3 year warranty/bike tune-ups for 60. so i basically paid 400 and some change.

here she is...my commute to work!

Built from scratch, now complete. Significant better ride quality compared to my old XC build from a Novara frame.

No typo! Amazon regular 30% off plus 20% off using Amazon Visa + additional $140 credit when my dropout hanger broke.! Amazon is awesome. Wish they sold other high end bikes!

Nice build! And I like how you routed the rear brake housing. Wish I thought of that...it would have saved a couple sliced housings on rocks.

Haha, thanks.. I've only done that because the brake cable was not long enough to mount on the intended routing path, have to cut corner and mount on some random place to reduce required length

Hey folks, I'm new to posting on this site, but have used it for much helpful info in the past, so thanks a lot. I live in Santa Fe, NM and am mainly an around town trail rider (there are some very cool ones here). My ride of choice is a hard tail mountain bike. Just scored this sweet ride at a yard sale, and am loving it. It has no decals or model ID, but is stamped 'Diamondback' at the rear tip of the rear dropouts. As far as I can tell, it's a Diamonback Axis, around '96. Super light, I think it's aluminum, labeled 'Made in Taiwan."
Came with Shimano clipless pedals, which I changed out. Any help with ID would be appreciated.
