Anyone know the weight on a Coil EX? Or own one and could put it on the scale? I'm leaning towards getting one, but the local store that carries it doesn't have my size. In calling several other stores of that chain, I've had three different weights given to me, all three major different. Two guys said they put it on a scale while I was on hold, and they were 10 lbs difference in their answers! And another store said he was pretty sure it was not heavy, and gave me his estimate that matched the lower scale weight. But based on other posts here on MTB, it's on the heavy side. I don't want a 40lb tank to push.
I plan to replace a few components to knock off some weight. Tires, inner tubes, seat and seatpost, bar, skewers, pedals, etc. Maybe the fork too. (Any recc.??) Mainly for the fun of customizing my ride! But at low cost. Whatever gives me good weight savings for the dollar. If I can get the weight reasonable on it without spending too much, I'll get it. From what I've read, the Coil EX is a good frame, and upgradeable.
FYI, I've never owned a mountain bike, so a newbie. Did road bike quite a few years ago. I've done some research though. Initially was just going to get the cheapo at Walmart, just to see if I even will use the thing (hope and think so). But in checking into them, have decided to at least get something half decent, so I'm not turned off to it right from the start. Smooth ride (not sure that term goes along with a bike meant for rough trails!) is probably my most impt criteria. No racing, jumping, or serious stuff at all. Just trail riding. The trails here are not much up/down (it's flat land here) but they are very rough from what I'm told.
Any input you guys have appreciated. I'm open to suggustion, but leaning hard to the Coil EX. But I really need to know the weight!! Will probably buy something in the next few days. I have decided to go with a full suspension. If for no other reason than to try one out. I'd rather try full suspension and go to a hardtail if I don't like it than the other way around. Probably *ss backwards, but that's what I want to do.
