New question here. BB shell/spindle size & chainline for '08 Response (SM) ?

    Hi all,

Just picked up an used '08(-ish?) Response (16"/SM) that's set up as a singlespeed dirtjumper rig, and need to replace its BB. Does anyone know the BB size / chainline?

Simply measuring the frame, the shell width is 73mm, but I don't know if I need x113mm or x118mm spindle length (in case of ISIS-type BB). (If I can't figure it out, I guess I'll just go with an external BB crankset.)

Thanks for your info in advance,
    - PiroChu

YeaH its a 73, just get a EXO BB, works on anything, and so much lighter than that lower end stuff.

Does anyone know the chainline for Response?

Yeah, true, EXO-type BB is much simpler (as I already have one on my other/main bike). But I was curious, just in case of ISIS-type.

I am sure it is a 113 spindle for bb, as for chain line, what are you refering to! Chainline is just more either a SS setup as in your "chainline" should be straight on; or geared bike where crossgearing is bad for the "chainline", Not sure what numbers you need dude!

    This is "chainline"...
    http://www.sheldonbrown.com/chainline.html

So, the number I'm looking for is like "48.5mm" or "51mm", etc.
See some example figures in a chart on the left-bottom corner on this...

    (and http://www.fullspeedahead.com/downlo...nstruction.pdf)

If you're absolutely sure about "113mm" (spindle length), then I know it's "48.5mm" (chainline), or vise-versa. Either way, I need a "confirmation". (If not, then EXO.)

Yeah I see what your gettting at, I never have had to think about the numbers there, just use what works! Pretty standard stuff there and common sense it seems to a degree. That is very anal , never had to deal with measuring a chainline in 13 yrs. And I am anal lol

Well, I'm anal and cheap, LOL!

Anyway, I just called Diamondback (253-395-1100), and a very helpful person helped me out. The '08~ models need 73mmx113mm BB, while ~'07 models need odd 68mmx108mm(!?) BB (and that's probably why this guy had a prob with his '07).

So, your recollection of x113mm was indeed correct/confirmed, thanks.
