    Base response stories

Who here has turned a base response into something badass? What did you do etc.. It is such a great bike for the price. I have beaten mine up and it rides great. A lot of people are so caught up in getting an expensive bike these days. I just wish it had the rims for discs.. wtf..
I like to ride my bike.

Well Honestly the line of Response all utilize the same frame so they are all really pretty relevant to what you are asking. But since I have what you call a base ( response XE ) I will tell you what I have done to mine.

The stock weinmann wheels are heavy, and mine had a 7 speed rear freewheel. I got rid of that, I got rid of the stock seat, I swapped the pedals for some other, got rid of the Kenda Klaw XT tires, new brake grips, new rear derailleur, etc. I will list what I have upgraded..

    FSA SL-XC 300 wheels
    Salsa Flip-offs CNC skewers
    Bontrager xr3 front/ Bontrager xr1 rear tires
    Bontrager SSR saddle
    Ergon GC2 grips
    Avid fr-5 brake grips
    Wellgo WR-1 pedals
    SRAM PG-850 ( 11-28T ) cassette
SRAM x4 rear derailleur w/ KCNC gears
    SRAM PG-850 chain
    Bontrager seat pack
    Bontrager Air-support air pump

    What is still stock?

Suntour XCTv2 crank ( plan to replace with FSA Dynadrive crank )
Suntour XCTv2 fork 100mm w/ lockout ( will replace with a fox fork later )
Tektro Novela Disk Brakes 160mm ( seems good enough for now )
Seatpost ( have one on order )
Handlebars ( have a new one on order )
Front derailleur Microshift M20 ( will keep stock until it stops working )

So basically pretty soon most of the bike wont be stock, I would say right now its 65% modded and 35% stock, lol. It rode well out of the box but the biggest gains were with the wheels/tires/8 speed rear cassette. Thats where I felt the most gains. Ill post a pic in a minute.

Question: I'm planning on ordering a Lizard Skin chainstay guard for my bike, but I've heard their sizing runs a little odd. (standard=small, jumbo=regular, etc) What size did you guys use on your Responses?
