The rest is neighborhood and b-road.
Loving the mix. So much more fun than riding my 6" travel mountain bike with 2.5s

The ridiculousness of cycling clothes increase exponentially in relation to the distance from your bicycle.

    Western NC. Asheville more specifically.
Very pretty time of year if you can shake the crust of pollen off the surface of your lungs.

Lucky you! Asheville is nice. CX have the right mix of durability, versatility (like tire size, fenders, and racks), and still remain quick.

Quickness helps in dodging the surfeit of homeless guys we seem to have imported.

Jealous for sure. My commute is all traffic laden roads and one stretch of concrete bike route along San Diego bay where I have to dodge tourists, the homeless and their pidgeons. Bad days are when there are 2 or more cruise ships at the terminal and they're all loading or letting out at the same time...

Don't worry about the homeless unless you do......I rode over a homeless guy's strawberries...

Yes, coffee shops abound here and not all have been taken over by Trustafarians (rasta-looking hippies with trust funds)
There is a nice local shop about 1/2 mile from work. Not near the single track. Apparently, the best I could hope for on the trail part would be a fruit basket. (I rode over a homeless guy's strawberries...)

How do you like the Solo CX? I just picked one up this weekend but haven't had a chance to take it out yet due to an ice storm. It seems to be a bike that doesn't exist; no info on them anywhere.

First non-MTB in almost 20 years, so I don't know much about skinny tires, but I still love it. So stinking fast.

Nasty weather here means that part of the commute is about 9" deep in mud, so I've been more pavement than gravel since fall and the commuter tires are still hanging in there. I'd like to replace them with tubeless, but overall it's an expensive proposition what with adding a wheelset while still keeping a 2yr old in groceries and clothes.

The discs are a little noisy in the grit, but wouldn't trade them since they rock in the wet. I (barely) survived v-brakes in the 90s, I have a lot of respect for the guys who still are rocking cantis...but big hit in insurance coverage --not blamin, jus sayin--means I don't want to join them.
