    Wheelset advice

I just picked up a new wheelset I was thinking about running on my bike. It is over a pound lighter than what I have on it now. Great weight savings. The rim is quite a bit narrower than what I have, it's a Sun Ringle Assault rim, looking it up all I can find about it is that it's a road bike rim. What do you think? Strong enough?

Depends on your weight and riding style, I am 200lbs and have been using a Shimano 105 (5600 series) road wheelset for several years without any issues except for the seals on the bearings being not up for handling mud and water. I checked around the web and don't see a weight limit on the rim in question, usually a good sign for durability.

Thanks for the reply. I agree, hard to find anything about the rim. I'm about 220 with gear, mostly use the bike on dirt roads on my commute, some smooth singletrack. The rims are built with Salsa mountain bike hubs, disc brakes, 32 hole. Seem like nice wheels, just not sure if they will be up for the job.

    Sure, go ride it.

Pinch flats are an opportunity to damage rims and you may find you need to run more pressure since they're narrower.

I'd give the spokes a quick squeeze check - it'll take you about a minute and if the tensions are weird or too low, better to know now.
