    Sizing - Trek Ion CX

Hello, I'm new to this CX thing, but I am pretty set on ordering an Trek Ion CX this week. I know there are some better bikes out there for the money, but through my local shop and former employer, to me looks like the best option.

I cant seem to figure out size on this thing. I'm 6'4" pretty average build I think, maybe longer than average legs. Most the shops are recommending the 61, the biggest size they make, with the 34" stand over it seems rather large to me. No one in the boston area has any ~60cm CX bikes in stock, so I cant take a spin on one. I will be doing some racing, but a lot of the riding will be 40-60 mile road rides, with some dirt and fireroads in there.

    Any thoughts?

Why does it seem rather large to you? Are you comparing their spec to your current bike? What effective top tube length (critical spec) works for you on a road bike?

If you have no frame of reference, I'd suggest you test ride several bikes (cx or road) at the shop that will order this bike for you. Since you'll be a paying customer, making sure you get a bike that fits you is the least they can do.

The chances that someone, here, can provide useful information is somewhat unlikely. Everyone's body dimensions are different, as well, as experience level, flexibility, setup preferences, etc. Their input may or may not be relevant. So before you spend big money on a pretty nice bike, I'd suggest you get on several and determine what works for you.

I work for a trek dealer, and just ordered an Ion CX myself. I'm around 6ft with long legs, and ordered the 56cm. I could have ridden a 58cm, but liked the feel of the slightly smaller bike for CX shenanigans. At 6'4, I'd suggest the 61cm. The ETT on the largest size is only 59cm. It really depends on you, but that's just my advice. I think the 58cm would be pushing it on the small side.
