    Single Speed Pedals

I had to take off my SPD's and replaced them with platform pedals until the new SPD's arrived. However it seems that the platforms have added more power to the stroke. am I out of my mind?

You could be right, going with the bigger area of the pedal but if you are running stiff soled (carbon) shoes it wont have made any difference as basically the contact patch is your whole foot.

What you should look at is your spd cleat position, running flats you are possibly riding with the "ball" of your foot over the pedal spindle, just have a look to see you cleat position on the shoe copies your flat riding style.
