    Show me your cross conversion!!

I am currently using an old Schwinn frame I was given and building it into a XC bike. I am curious what others have done. MTB/Road conversion. Either way!!

    Thanks

    Great bike Joe!

I used to have a '95 Marin Eldridge Grade till some fawker stole it in '04.

I really miss that bike. If I still had it I'd most likely do something similar.

What bars are those, they're interesting looking.

Thanks, Mike! That's a slightly older Ritchey WCS Logic ergo bar. Unlike their current product line, which are mostly compact, those are full size with 82mm reach and 144mm drop. And they weigh around 228g--half a pound! The big drop section can accommodate all hand sizes and is very comfortable.

    Nice bling factor, too:

If I were building an off road bike, though, I'd probably opt for something wider with less drop and flared ends, like the Salsa Cowbell. I'd want something that felt more like an MTB bar and comfortable out of the saddle while reaching the levers from the drops.

I like that guitar ted build. I am leaning more towards dirt/gravel primary and road secondary.

I love the idea of the wide bars, on my MTB I love them.

Here's another resource (in case you hadn't seen it) on doing off-road drops right: Why I Ride Dropbars. It seems you may need to experiment a bit with stem length/angle to get the reach and drop you want but it definitely looks like fun.

If you're looking for more inspiration, below's a piece on gravel bikes. According to the article, the top men's and women's finisher in this year's Dirty Kanza 200 both rode the Specialized Crux. It's essentially a road bike with relaxed geo (slacker/taller head tube), 70mm BB drop and enough clearance for bigger tires. Factory racer Rebecca Rusch, the women's champ, opted for mechanical discs, 700x38 clinchers, 50/34 crank and Specialized compact handlebar.
