    Nashbar Carbon Seat Post Break

I know the Nashbar brand of products are low end. I bought a used Specialized TriCross and the guy had put a Nashbar Carbon Seat Post on. I have put about 60 miles of gravel dirt and went to ride on some single track today. Not really rough by any mountain biking needs but some small jumps, rock gardens etc, then on a climb i hear a crumpling sound and the seat post had broken. It was installed well past the minimum mark and I do not know the history of this post. I was just curious if it was a fluke or just due to being a low end product. I have now installed an aluminum specialized seat post for the time being.

old carbon which you don't know the history of. Who knows if he clamped it to death previously or if he sourced it used.

Were you expecting a good result?

No expectations. Just shocked when it happened. It fractured/shattered about 3-4 inches below the seat so I don't think it was out it was clamped but I understand I could be wrong. I will however have a new Thompson Seatpost this Friday. Thankful to have a good local bike shop that got me one at an affordable price.

When I stated riding my aluminum cross bike on the road, I looked into getting a carbon seat post to tone down the road buzz... But I came across several threads like this from every brand under the sun. I think this is a situation where the carbon just isn't going to hold up for more than a season or two.

Here is a lot of info on carbon problems:
