Help needed. (x-post from brakes)
I've currently got a Cross bike built up in Campagnolo Chorus/Record and after looking through my spare parts boxes I noticed I have a brand new unused set of Avid BB7's (they were supposed to go on my fatbike but I ended up going with something else).
The BB7's were a sweet find as I've been kinda plannin' on going to a disc equipped cross bike. Problem is (at least I think it's going to be a problem) that these are mtn calipers. Do mtn calipers work with Campy road shifters?
I'm guessing no due to ratio issues and the levers ultimately bottoming out on the bars.
Am I right.
Here's my crummy, slow-going blog The Slow Spoke
if you're interested.
You are right. However, problem solvers makes a pull ratio adjuster that makes long pull brakes (mtn disc and linear pull) compatible worth short pull levers (cantilever, road caliper, road disc). I don't know if they are worth it price-wise, though, since you can get bb7s pretty cheap through jenson (though I am not positive they have the road bb7 for cheap).
Edit: the pull ratio adjusters are called travel agents. Clever, no?

You could probably rig it up using something to regulate the cable pull but it's not going to work the same or as well as a road specific caliper matched with a STI shifter. Looking back on using mtn bb7s and all kinds of shifter combos i'd suggest doing it right the first time and suggest selling the bb7s and put the $$ towards some Sklyer(sp?) TRB road discs and not look back.
