    Gravel Grinder bikes

I just recently test road a Salsa Warbird Ti and was completely blown away by how nicely it road. It got me rethinking my whole "road bike" purchase, or soon to be purchase. Just got me curious if anyone else is making Gravel Grinder type bikes? This might be something I want to get into but maybe not at a Warbird Ti price tag.

Surly, Raleigh, and Specialized all have new GG's in the works.

Also check out Black Mountain Cycles. They have a monster cross-esque frame that's quite nice. I own one of their road frames, and while it can only clear 33mm tires, I take it on dirt roads/trails all the time.

How exactly would a GG bike be better than a comparable cross bike?

Cross bikes will be optimized for shorter, more explosive efforts. Stability is generally not a factor, so they typically have higher BBs and steeper angles than (well-designed) GG bikes.

Have you considered a hard tail MTB frame? Check out the On One Inbred Haddock Cross build on On One Bikes |
I've been riding a Planet X carbon cross bike as my winter trainer/gravel bike for a while, and despite taking 50 or so miles to adjust for the higher BB and looser handling, it's comfortable and fast off-road.
I also spent about 14 hours on a Cielo Sportif with 33c tires climbing my legs off and drifting around gravel corners at high speeds. It was super comfortable, reliable, and fast and light as well.
