    Good beginner bike?

I am sure there are many post out there, but I am looking for a good beginner cyclocross bike that I can race this season. I am looking at spending under $1000. Can I get some help on what would be a good bike in that price range.

I've been eye-balling the Diamondback Steilacoom at Pricepoint. Looks like a pretty decent setup for $1k.

I made a similar thread last week, might want to take a look at the thread for the recommendations I got.

I am seriously thinking about getting this Fuji for $900 from my LBS.....
Fuji Cross 4.0 LE Cyclocross Bike - 2014 Performance Exclusive -

I need a 50cm frame (Pricepoint below is only 53cm). The Diamondback does has 105 components up front (Tiagra cassette common to both) which is easily worth the $100 more. The Fuji is Tiagra all around.
I wonder if any shops in my area have the Steilacoom in 50cm at that price...
